Imho the map's idea is hilarious. I lik eit very much. My only problem with the map, that it feels somewhat empty.
Also, don't give a flying f*ck abuot what people say on public. Look at what maps they always vote in: always easy to capture, easy to camp floaters.

Exactly. Only YOU, other mappers/devs and very occasionally a player or two appreciate the amount of time and effort put into a good, complex map.
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

BTW: I think there's a reason for FFA servers always playing the easy maps (I'm talking CTF here only). With a heterogenous mix of players from noobs to pros the gameplay has to be simple to be enjoyable for everyone. If a map is only slightly complex, the amount of players actually knowing WTF to do gets smaller rapidly.

It's quite a challenge to hit that sweetspot of pure simplicity and a miniscule amount of complexity that apparently goes well on FFA servers.. :D

If you hit that, your map will be played over and over.. So let's call out another mapping challenge:

The Braindead Mapping Challenge..

Make simpleton CTF maps that still have some sort of twist to it, so it is enjoyable by everyone. Allows sub 10 secs capture with good use of laser, etc, and most of all looks good. Pimping existing maps for a better look is admissable. The price is getting your maps on the FFA servers. I'm in no position to promise anything, but if your map meet the above criteria, then they cannot fail to get played ;D

Heh. No worries Sepelio I don't mean you. As I said, it's not that bad in the forums, since most critiques are from fellow mappers who do know what stuff went into making maps. It's the players really. It just gets annoying to be constantly reminded of the map's failures, as if we were somehow obligated to make them happy. I actually hate that map now too. LOL Simply because it brought so much grief.

I do enjoy making maps a lot. It's an outlet for creativity first, rather than for bragging rights. I was a mapper first before I became a 3d artist actually LOL (I started with Morrowind's TES 3 Editor when I was around 16 which got me into 3d, and before that I was making Starcraft spoof maps).

But yeah lda17h has a point. I'm a regular CTF player and I do dislike overly large or complicated maps gameplay-wise. I get lost easily, especially when the corridors all use very similar textures, but they are far more better looking usually. Smaller, simpler maps are just far more action-packed. Unfortunately, they are also the maps which take very little effort to make (and most are actually test maps by new mappers haha).

I think It's a good idea IMO, the braindead challenge I mean ^^

Bah I say what we need is just to eliminate all the braindead maps from every server. Oh also we need an Assault mapping competition, since there aren't any maps for that yet.

So well, 6 days left! Also: Merry Xmas.

I've been thinking of another contest by the way... Hopefully it'll turn out as well as this one has :P
