NetRADIANT - |||couple of questions||| -Plz help

Postby tehbomb » Fri Mar 06, 2009 11:02 pm

Question 1- On net radiant why do most of my shaders/texture come out ultra white when i load the map on nexuiz.

Question 2- Is there a way to add a shader/texture to half of the same shape.

Question 3- Is there a way to change the size of the texture boxes. (so that way an image like a jump pad fits better on certain areas)

Question 4- How do you make jump pads and surfaces that kill the player apon impact.

Question 5- How come when im trying to change the texture on some walls and floors that it wont let me change it. (It will let me select it but not change it.)

Question 6- Is there an easy way to tell how big somthing is. (Because some maps i make come out really big. and some come out ultra small o.O

Question 2- Is there a way to add a shader/texture to half of the same shape.

A: I'm not sure if I understand the question... but if I do... you either have to cut the brush in half and texture each half respectively... or perhaps a thing called texture blending that someone else will have to elaborate on

Question 3- Is there a way to change the size of the texture boxes. (so that way an image like a jump pad fits better on certain areas)

A: press 's' to bring up the texture setting window, you'll likely want to use the 'fit to brush' option but you'll see you can play with the numbers manually as well.

Question 4- How do you make jump pads and surfaces that kill the player apon impact.

A: trigger_hurt

Question 5- How come when im trying to change the texture on some walls and floors that it wont let me change it. (It will let me select it but not change it.)

-- This is pretty vague... I'm not sure I understand completely. Are you editing and already created map? Can you give a specific example?

Question 6- Is there an easy way to tell how big somthing is. (Because some maps i make come out really big. and some come out ultra small o.O

A: the units are in quake units. The grid is labeled in these units. If you'd like a better reference, you can insert a player spawn to have a better reference to player size.

http://www.nexuizninjaz.com/forum/showt ... hp?tid=441

check out that thread . it has alot of mapping solutions for you , the begining mapper . i suggest you read through the clankillers tut and follow along . things will be much easier if you do . bubbas tut also has some good advice . but it is more of a quick refernce guide . Ai has some video tutorials if reading isnt your thing . so go check those out . mapping is an evryday learning process , but to get a good handle you need to start from the begining . So take a few days to get aquainted with netradiant with these tuts . ive seen far too many people get frustrated and quit mapping because they wanted to jump right in without knowledge of what netradiant can do .

hope this helps - happy mappings - good luck

Just read that nice link of Grasshopper, the first tutorial in the list has a nice howto about jumppads: http://bubba.planetquake.gamespy.com/jump1.html (i have not really read thru it as i'm not into mapping, but i guess it just works like its described there..)

ya thats pretty much it . make a brush a trigger_push. pres "n" for the entities menus while that brush is still highlighted. give a name under key and value like key: target, value: push1 then make a target_position with the names of key:targetname , value: push1 . thats one way to do it . some people highlight the both of them and press ctrl+k and that links them .Im old school tho i preferr the hard way :)
