Okey, here comes brightness questions again

Postby ai » Sun Dec 24, 2006 5:32 pm

I've got a new widescreen tft screen and made it my primary and the other one I had to my secondary (dual screen) (to the left) but when I start nexuiz the brightness is dark, won't help me much to crank it up in the game nor the monitor itself helps. I've seen threads bringing stuff like config.xonf or something, but ain't that for debian? How do you fix this in windows.

My specs: GeForce 4 Ti 4800 SE, Windows XP with SP2, 1.5 GHz RAM, latest drivers: 93.71_forceware_winxp2k_english_whql. If you'd need more info let me know.
I have searched the forums for similar threads as I didn't wanna start yet another one, but none seemed to bring up this specific problem (or I might have missed it), they didn't help me or I didn't quite understand what to do.

If nothing else works, let DarkPlaces make it brighter and not tell the graphics card to do so.

To do that, go to the console (Shift-Esc) and enter: r_hdr_scenebrightness 2 (that is a brighness multiplicator for the whole scene)
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Well, it does help a little, but not as good as brightness, maps can still be very dark and players hard to see.

Oh right, that stupid windows bug when using two monitors.. Though i think DP could work around that stupid bug like some other games do. Try to complain to LordHavoc :)

Not really.. the bug was that the engine keept setting and resetting gamma which lead the flickering. Quite ugly.
But the real bug is that windows reports you CAN NOT set gamma although you can. I think (did not investigate) a workaround would be to give a shit to what windows tells and do it anyway. It would set gamma on both screens but i think thats ok for most users. But i have no idea what might then happen in case were windows is right with its claim..
