Can't start [Linux]

Postby Commodore » Wed Dec 27, 2006 7:50 pm

I can't start Nexuiz. When I use the sdl version it starts initing stuff but doesn't go on after that. When I use the glx version it goes 'til the loading screen and stays there. If it would load it should make my computer slower right? Well it doesn't do anything. My specs:
AMD Duron 1ghz
256mb RAM
128mb NVidia GeForce 5200 FX
Ubuntu Dapper.

Thank you.

for me, I'm afraid I cant help you very much. Your system is a little weak for Nexuiz. Especially 256MB RAM are very few.

If I were you I'd start with making a shortcut on my desktop, there I would add "+ exec low.cfg" to the command line. It disables all possible effects, probably the game would run then.

I run it with 256 megs of RAM and it doesn't go very well with Gnome or KDE on, but it's rather fine in not too crowded matches if you use WindowMaker. So I don't think that's the problem. (yeah, I should become a specialist in low-end computers :D)

Could you copy the messages the sdl version prints out in the terminal (when you start it from the terminal of course) and paste it here? I can't promise anything but I will take a look.

Should be good news for the memory Nexuiz needs :). I think the game stumbles upon an error somewhere (and that is probably not the window manager's fault).

Is the driver for your nvidia card installed correctly?
('glxinfo | grep render' should say "Yes", if it is)

yeah I would definitely need the console output to figure this out, but it's most likely the ram, and mabie you don't have a big enough swap partition.

Sorry for making you waste your time but today through some miracle the sdl version did start. I'm running the nvidia-glx driver so no problem with 3d acceleration. The game is slow on my computer :( like you said.
