blinking screen

Postby cichlasoma » Thu Feb 01, 2007 11:45 pm

hi,
when i change anything in "create" menu and start the server, the screen flashes as if the computer had to switch between the actual game and something else (the former server?), when i change something more in the settigs, things get even worse. what helps is to go to options/video and click "apply" (without changing anything) the game reloads and everything is alright.
perhaps, i just have to disconnect from the current server before starting the changed one, or something like that, but i'm not able to find out, how.
could anybody help?
thanx in advance.
c.
(i run it in windows xp, home edition)

hmmmm sounds like a port forwarding mess. Forward port 26000 UDP to your computer. That may help. Do you experience this during gameplay?

thanx!
yes, the screen flashes during the gameplay as well till i fix it through "applying" video options anew as described. SOMETIMES, the flashing begins also when auto-switching to the next map in the cycle after finnishing a round.
(honestly speaking, i've no idea, what "forwarding a port" means, unfortunetaly... i try to google it...)

Are you running a dual monitor setup on windows? Sounds like the hw gamma bug. Try disableing hardware gamma in the color ctl menu.
HOF:
<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
<Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D
<Samua>Lies, that only applies to other people.

unfortunetaly, disableing gamma doesn't help...

btw, could the port-matter be the problem even in case of non-public servers?

No. Your problem shouldn't have anything to do with network at all, except you are running a firewall or something, that tries to display a popup...
Since the apply button helps, i guess there is problem a problem with your video card or its drivers. (knowing more about you system might help here ;))

i'm almost sure now, my problem is, the comp runs, or tries to run several nexuiz servers at once. e.g. - i fixed it through applying video settings, i was searching something in the "create" menu and after one minute, which was set as the time limit for test, the screen began to blink. i'd be sure, i'm making a silly thing myself, but as i wrote, the problem appears sometimes also when the program switches automaticaly to the next map in the cycle... :?
