Loading Screen Of Death

Postby Tw34k » Sat Mar 10, 2007 1:14 am

im a newbie here and i just started playing, or at least tried. Every time i try to play, i get to the loading screen, and then it says "Nexuiz has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." first off, Windows is sorry for the inconvenience? i can tell you that thats bulls**t right there. second off, why does this keep happening? any ideas?

First of, we should need some more specific problem. If you want technical support, you'd need to give technical details about your problem too.
So what OS (yeah, we know it's windows, but wich one? EDIT: rumbling around the forums I've found you have win xp SP2) What system? (I mean hardware). What videocard, what driver, etc. Have you tried with both exe? (SDL executable does the same?)
And btw, if you don't want to see the error message, that M$ is sorry for the inconvenience, you know what you should do (http://goodbye-microsoft.com/). ;)
ps: last one is obviously a joke (I mean you don't have to switch to linux), but can be an alternative solution.

But I still dunno your graphics card type.
If you don't know, what kinda GPU is in your PC, just left click on your my computer icon. That will bring up the My computer information window. There should be a button named device manager under one of the tabs (sorry, I'm sitting on a debian, I can't remember the names).
There should be some information about your grapics card (man, I realy hope you haven't got ripped off by some lame onboard card.)

Ok, so first you should find this:

Under Hardware tab there should be the device manager:

And there should be a drop-downable line called video cards or somehting like this.

EDIT: ok, I thin kyou've already found it.

According to google, this is what I've been feared of: this is a rather lame onboard grapihc card.

Haven't you got any CD-s boundled with your PC, with onboard drivers and stuff?
Right click on that item, and there should be something about it's properties. Seek for driver. It's telling it's microsoft driver, isn't it? if it is, there's one key problem.
Google told me http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/win/36185 here's a "new" driver for you (the date says 2004, but I haven't found yet any newer).
That should be better anyway then the default windows driver.
Ok, so download the file, and install the driver for your onboard card, and hopefully that will fix your problem.

EDIT:
Ok, I've found a better one, it's here: http://www.opendrivers.com/downloadopen ... href=37369

If that isn't the right driver, try http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/i ... 009266.htm (that will hopefully tell you which drivers you need).

If Nexuiz is still crashing, try to disable "OpenGL 2.0 Shaders" in Nexuiz (Options->Effects). If that doesn't help either, i'll need a crash report to see what's happening...
