this is probably a dumb question but do you have openGL installed?

No of course he has not :)

bubbabubby: You need to install 3d accelerated linux drivers for you graphics card. As a general rule of thumb this will work if you have a intel card (slow usually) or ati or nvidia. For ati there are both official ati closed source drivers and open source drivers that are included with xorg 7.x. For nvidia there are only closed source drivers.

What graphics card and what distribution do you have?

he has slackware.

umm if you have an nvidia card install the nvidia-glx driver avalable for slackware. I have not used slackware so I do not know.

if you have an ATI card then I don't know what to do because I've never configured an ATI card under linux.
