64bit not working

Postby ProbablyX » Sat Mar 31, 2007 11:17 pm

Hello!

When I run the glx (or sdl) start-up script on my fedora core 6 (x86_64) I get to the menu and everything, but as soon as I try to start a campaign the game dies.

This is a log output from the console:
Server: Nexuiz build 10:43:21 Jan 23 2007 (progs 23858 crc)

<===================================>

Downer
CDAudio: Bad track number 0.
Player entered the game
Fake CD track 8 playing...
Received signal 11, exiting...
Client "Player" dropped
Client "Darkness" dropped
Client "Discovery" dropped
OpenGL Backend shutting down

That was for the GLX version, I can supply similar data for the SDL one.

However if I manually start the i686-version the game plays fine! could this be a link issue?

Thanks

Well the i686 is the 32 bit version. I do not have a 64 bit system so i have no idea what the problem is but i guess you are missing some 64bit stuff. Maybe libraries?

Looks like the crash happens right after the map is loaded. Do you have an ATI card? ATI drivers tend to crash when compiling OpenGL shaders on some systems. Try turning off "OpenGL 2.0 Shaders" in the menu ("Options"->"Effects").

Yes I have an ATI card so I'll try that :) However Quake4 works fine for me and it uses OGL2, doesnt it?

Or.. well Q4 is 32bit so perhaps the issue only occurs on 64bit programs?

Well ATI of course fixes driver bugs when it comes to a million dollar project like quake4 and besides i'm not sure if quake uses glsl shaders which need to be compiled by the drivers. I'm just not sure about the name of that other shaders right now.. ARB shaders?
