Postby tuxinside » Wed Apr 04, 2007 2:07 pm

Hi!

I have a Nvidia 6200 with closed source driver, under Ubuntu 6.10.

I have a problem with Nexuiz: during the game, after some minutes of play, i see some random colored line on the screen. After that the some point of texture changes their color to green, violet, blue... After some second the game freeze e i must reset the machine.

What is the problem? How can i solve?

tnx!

P.S. sorry for my terrible english!

Could be overheating. Check the temperature reading in nvidia-settings while the game is running. If it is overheating, set the CoolBits option to On in xorg.conf and reduce the graphics card clocks in nvclock. Also, you could try running with the case open and check if it is more stable then.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

It's too hight?
My case is already open, i can insert a fan on the dissipator. (this video card doesn't have it)

Well my 6600gt has around 45° at 'desktop work' and as i tried now to run a few Nexuiz timedemos for a few minutes it went up to 55°..
However in nvidia-settings it also displays: Slowdown Threshold: 145°
So i'd say 70" is higher then what i have here but still a long way from the slowdown threshold on MY card.. not sure about yours.

Had the same kinda trouble with a 4-year old GeForce MX440. Cleaned the fan (it doesn't come with one but I added one of those you can buy at a small price) and hoping for the best. See the electro below for the messed up texture. I have no disco style light problem though :).

P.S.: I don't have temperature sensors nor options for this one. But I kinda fried my middle finger when I used it to test radiator temperature after it happened for the first time :D.

I have a 6200 (PNY I believe), and I don't believe I've ever seen it climb above 40 C. I don't make it a habit to check while in the middle of a game, but on the occasions that I have I never noticed anything higher.

Since you've solved your problem, this won't affect you, but let me just say that I had to switch from the nvagp drivers to the agpgart drivers before I got stability. Under nvagp, I got random crashes with an error logged in the system log by the closed source drivers. Now I'm about as stable as possible.
