I only have a PPC one, and as I was so disappointed with Apple (like: slow GPU, bad ATI drivers, no way to install a new driver, no way to put in a GOOD graphics card, bad user interface that doesn't even let me resize windows anywhere but at the lower right corner and that can't even maximize windows), I won't ever get a Mac again.

So yes, what you suspect may be true. If it can be "officially" verified, we could change the default of the option to 0 on Intel and 1 on PPC. Don't want to base this on guesswork though.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

I have an Intel iMac and haven't had any mouse problems. I am using a Microsoft Intellimouse mouse, though, and the program SteerMouse as a mouse driver.

I love Apple computers, but I recommend a non-Apple mouse. They always try to make a cute mouse rather than a functional one. For a game, you need reliable mouse clicks and wheel rolls. Wacky mice with one button or the whole body of the mouse moving for a mouse click or a sloppy-loose scroll ball that's almost flush with the mouse body isn't going to give you good control.

I also highly recommend SteerMouse. It's shareware and costs just $20. You can find it on versiontracker.com or download.com. It gives you much more control over what your mouse buttons do and you can customize the buttons for different applications. For example, my mouse button 5 is shift-click in most programs, but selects the laser in Nexuiz. You can't do this with the standard mouse driver.

USB Overdrive is supposed to be good too.

I want to take a moment to thank the developers for making a Mac version of Nexuiz and for continuing to work on these Mac-specific issues.

I would be happy to help with testing on the Mac platform.

I'm currently running Leopard on an v3 eMac http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EMac and playing the current version of Nexuiz. It's not an Intel machine, so it must be PPC.

I wiped the HD and installed Leopard, followed by a few updates from Apple. The only item of software I've installed is Nexuiz plus about 1GB of maps copied from my Kubuntu machine.

I've not noticed any problems with my mouse, it's a simple cheap optical USB mouse from my local supermarket. I increased the mouse sensitivity from 6 to about 15, but then I have to do that on Windows and Kubuntu.

I don't know if this is of any help ;)
