Brightness problem

Postby RoKenn » Thu May 31, 2007 8:36 pm

Hi,

I already posted the problem that after ~10 minutes the game goes very dark.
(I think it might be increased brightness disappearing?)

http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.ph ... ght=#19416

Today i realized ingame that other people have the same problem, eg. Hafner, using 2.3.

KadaverJack's hint with "v_hwgamma 0" also helped him (as it helped me).
But what might be the reason for this effect?

Most likely a graphics driver bug. "v_hwgamma 0" forces the engine to calculate gamma in software, without the driver's or gpu's help (which is slower of course, but also more failsafe).
Are you using any tools, that display osd messages/tooltips (some instant messengers or hardware info tools for example)? That might cause such a bug...

No, nothing that I'm aware of., just a plain KDE (which has tooltips in general, but if it's their fault, a LOT of people should have problems...)

The problem just exists since one of the late 2.3 test releases. I had the impression that Hafner today was also quite surprised...

I will try to switch off the option and use a simple window manager (ah, good ole fvwm :D ) the next days.

Well in the new 2.3 release there are more ways to brighten up the maps so a non-working v_hwgamma is not that bad anymore..
