Crash, crash, crash

Postby mufunyo » Fri Jun 01, 2007 5:59 pm

Hi,

Someone recommended me Nexuiz, and as a fan of hardcore style firstperson shooters I was eager to try it. However, on my fresh XP SP1 I haven't been able to actually walk one pace or shoot one bullet; the game keeps crashing.

When I set offset mapping on, it crashes, when I've been spectating for a while, it crashes. Sometimes it just crashes.

I have a Radeon 9700 Pro, Athlon XP 2400+, Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe, and a virgin install of XP Pro SP1.

Any details I should fill out or a debug mode I can turn on?

EDIT: I've now been able to play level 1 of the campaign, but when I got to level 2 the game crashed.

Hi & welcome,
try truning off "OpenGL 2.0 Shaders" in Options/Video.
Unfortunately the ATI drivers tend to crash with that option on some systems...

Personally never experienced crashes such as that, and I have the same GPU. However, when using offsetmapping, it just renders black and spews lots of errors into the console, cause the 9700 can't handle that amount of math (it could be optimized ofcourse, but who wants to do that...)

Well its hard work to optimize it.. but i'm sure at some point it will be done.
However it would be nice to hear form mufunyo if disabling the shaders helped..

Thats funny.. on mac we disable such stuff explicitly .. still can look in the menu and see if opengl 2.0 shaders are disabled?
