Postby og_carbon » Sun Mar 26, 2006 4:11 am

all MS Runtime should be current, w/
AMD 3.4 Athlon dual
MSI Nvidia 5950 Ultra

was running @ 800x600, 32 bit
w/o anisotropic filter.

got this 3 times today... usually will play a map fine w/ sweet fps for about 5 min then crash. my smiles are turning to frowns.... :(

Is that XP or Vista?

Also, are you just randomly playing in a map which it crashes? Or does it always crash when you do something (say switch weapons, open a certain menu, etc...)?

it's XP running Stardock WB 5. I've tried unloading WB before playing and that didn't seem to work, so I don't think that's the problem.
So far I can really figure out no reason for it.... although at least 50% of the time it seems to happen when firing a rocket, Hagar, or nade. It's happened on several different maps also (at first I thought it might have been just custom ones)... both MP online and local.

Thx. :S

OOOoooo you're in Wisconsin too! lol go Pack!

Maybe you should run a memory test to see if all chips are ok.. could also be overheating. At first look it does not seem to be a software problem to me.

ok this is going to sound weird... but i changed res from 800x to 1280 x 1024 (my desktop resolution) and it happens less. Only once, yesterday.

i guess it's my puters way of telling me it doesn't need my charity, lowering it to a lesser resolution. lol. anyway, runs smooth at the higher res so i'll see what happens.

Hm, so it might be your video drivers fault. You could try different releases if you have some time and test if it still crashes.
Anyway, it couldn't hurt running memtest to be sure your RAM is ok...

Do you still have the problem? Did the memtest showup anything? Maybe to update your drivers is also a good idea

updated drivers and it went away.
won't be too long before there won't be any further support for my video card. I think the issue was there was still some residual driver info from some 3rd party drivers (Omega Nvidia) that mucked it up. I've installed a new set of drivers from Nvidia and so far so good.
