Game Controls Locking Up

Postby mechanicalnucleus » Wed Mar 01, 2006 3:51 pm

I posted this on the old forums but they are obviously not there anymore... Sorry if someone has to repeat a solution as I didn't get to see any replies on my old post!

While playing Nexuiz all my controls can lock up and force me to move in one direction for a random amount of time.

All keyboard and mouse controls don't work until the game decides it wants to give me back control.

Any ideas?

I'm running this on an Althon XP 2100+ 1.7Ghz, 512Mb RAM, ATI Radeon 9700 PRO. My keyboard and mouse are PS2 and my mouse is an old MS Intellimouse with a lovely ball (which I did clean!).

Hope some one can help!

I think what tZork and I suggested was:

If you have wireless keyb/mouse, check batteries, and also check anything that oculd affect the communication, like cellphones, wireless audio or whatever. Also try anpther channel and see if that helps.

As I specified, my mouse and keyboard are PS2. They are wired not wireless.

Ok.. Does anything like this ever happen in other applications? Make sure you turn windows' "stickykeys' off in case those kick in when holding down or repeatedly clicking some key.. "shift" i think it is by default.

Nope. All my other applications are working fine with no sticking at all.

And I always disable Sticky Keys just after installing Windows... So that can't be a problem.

Its kinda strange.

Have you tried with both the -sdl and normal executables? Thise two differ in the whay they access the hardware so with some luck one of them may do it better then the other.

The SDL exe doesn't have this problem.

I solved the problem by upgrading to catalyst 6.2, it also solved alien arena's control lockup problem

I had this same problem before I switched to SDL. My computer would make a terrible system beep noise when the controls would freeze, and that is not fun with earbuds. SDL handles input better for my system. So just switch to nexuiz-sdl.exe to solve the keyboard and mouse lockup problem.

Cheers guys! I'll give it a go later and let you know if it all works ok now...

Whats the difference between the versions though... If the SDL one is better why don't you just release that one?

They just use different methods to access the hardware.. to be honest i do not know why both are released but the most plausible explaination is that if one fails the other one might work ;)
But as Nexuiz 1.5 only ships the sdl version for mac and linux i would like to hear someone tell why we still ship both versions only for windows..
Maybe because its very easy to compile the missing version on linux and mac. :)
