They just use different methods to access the hardware.. to be honest i do not know why both are released but the most plausible explaination is that if one fails the other one might work ;)
But as Nexuiz 1.5 only ships the sdl version for mac and linux i would like to hear someone tell why we still ship both versions only for windows..
Maybe because its very easy to compile the missing version on linux and mac. :)

Nexuiz does ship with natives (glx) for linux. It does not for mac because the native mac support (agl) hasn't been finalized yet as I understand it.

Why include both? For the fact that has already been mentioned, for some people one will work better than the other, but its never a constant. DarkPlaces itself it software designed to work with specific hardware technologies, so its native support may be limited. SDL is a very nice and versitale tool made to be compatible with as much hardware (and Operating Systems) as possible.

It has been argued to go SDL-only, which may not be a terrible thing, but native support has been kept up for those 'just in case' scenarios.

Well thats not totaly right Nexuiz 1.5 does ship only the sdl version for linux (and mac). Windows users get both versions. I just looked at the nexuiz-15.zip file.
I think most linux user can compile the native version if they have problem with the other one so that should not be a problem.. ;)

Yes.. compilers are more accesible, at least in terms of knowledge and habit of the users in the Gnu/U*IX world than the windows world in general :)

just to mention re SDL: i only run sdl version on linux as the others cripple the sound performance.

i had this problem just the once. only able to move left. no idea how it jumped back out again, i think after i got fragged. One off occurence for me, but definatley in linux using sdl.

another wierd one is respawing layed on my side, or apparently half into the floor. can move around ok. again, frag seems to reset things ok.
other gamer confirmed i looked all normal from his point of view.
interesting but not frequent enough to upset gameplay.

maybe drop the console down if it happens again and type kill to respawn yourself.

That's caused by an engine bug. When you're dead, the view will tilt, sometimes the server doesn't tell a client to reset the view on respawn.
The same bug can cause bullets or tracers to be stuck in midair or (most annoying) let the client see pickups (strength e.g.) that are already gone...

Luckily LordHavoc already fixed this in cvs so you won't have those problems anymore in the next release.

Two Bugs

Postby :) » Fri Mar 03, 2006 3:21 am

Are these bugs known/fixed?

In CTF, if the flagbearer disconnects, the flag cannot be picked up or returned.

Using Create Game, if you kick yourself, your server remains up until you reconnect to it.

edit: removed links and condensed the information into this post, sorry about that.

Yes, that one is still open, too... But it's not really critical :D
