Wierd resolution problem

Postby Goran » Tue Mar 28, 2006 10:19 pm

Just got the game running. Wasent flawless in the location it was placed on my screen but its livable with so far.

Heres my problem:
When the game runs the top of the screen is cut off maybe a few lines to the point where if anyone types a message I can only read the lower half of the words. Sometimes I cant even make out what they say. And Lastly at the bottom and right side of the screen is about a cm of space where my desktop shows. I used my monitor controls to move it around and it helps a bit but not perfectly and it didnt solve the cut off top at all no matter how much I stretched the top of moved it all together.

Any adivce?
Minor problems that are liveable with imho but would be better if it was displayed properly..

I guess I fixed it by switching to windowed mode

But since you asked:
17" CRT
WinXP Pro
Geforce 2 :)

Hmm this indeed sounds like your monitor is having problems with the resolution. But you should be able to adjust your monitor enough so that everything is visible. Strange that you did not succeed.
Maybe you are able to adjust it better if you try an other resoution or refreshrate. You should be able to choose the refresh rate in your graphic drivers or if that does not work try setting the variable vid_refreshrate to the Hz you want. set vid_refreshrate 80

Mode validation and monitor timing

Postby ds01 » Wed Mar 29, 2006 9:56 pm

Hey,

I've noticed some NVidia driver revisions have issues with mode validation, especially on older video cards like GF2. What resolution are you running Nexuiz at?

If you still want to play fullscreen you could probably fix this issue, it sounds like the driver is just using a timing that your monitor doesn't like. You should probably fix this anyways as it could damage it.

If you're using the monitor as a 'Plug 'N Play' device, try downloading a "driver" for your monitor from the manufacturer's website (this can be hard to find sometimes!). Basically it's just an ".inf" file that has mode and timing descriptors that tells Windows to restrict the display within specifications.

Another thing to try is there should be an option menu inside of the NVidia display controls, under display preferences, advanced options, then NVidia. It's been a while since my PC broke, but there should be something called "Advanced Display Timing" or "expert modes" where you can choose several options such as "GTF" or "Windows" etc.

Lastly it may just be a bugged NVidia driver (seen this myself on a GF2 Ultra). The last official release that supports non-MX GF2 series cards is 71.89 (Win2k/xp), but that may not be the best one for those cards! You may have better luck with the manufacturer's provided driver [on their website].

I know this is fixable.

Good Luck
