Game lacks a realistic sniper rifle

I'd love to use a realistic sniper rifle in Nexuiz - not a hit-scan weapon, but an actual rifle round that deals damage somewhat in excess of the hit-scan Nex (one should be rewarded for being able to properly track a moving target).
I was converted to the darkside and now mostly play Urban Terror with a clan as |ALPHA|DrPepper. Also branching out into CoD4.

What's different about that from the current nex besides the damage?

Hi, Mr. Carlyle! Are the same Mr. Carlyle who played/plays UT99? I remember a Mr. Carlyle who was something awesome and played a lot of CTF, IIRC.

As for the difference from the current nex, I'm dreaming of a round that has a speed and follows the game physics for other projectiles. From the little I've gathered by playing, other projectiles inherit velocity from their point of origin (with a calculation for force transfer?). It's probably a long ways off, but it would be so neat.

No I've never played UT. :(

That's interesting. It would indeed be harder to hit people on those many large open CTF maps.

I think you get what I'm getting at. The projectile should equal/approach real-world-like velocity for a high-powered rifle, say, 1200'/sec for the first hundred game-yards (some scaled number), quickly reduced to 1000'/sec past that (or however the formula best works out in game physics). As for color/appearance, this is Nexuiz, and while I've never quite grasped the "look" thing of it, I think something like a small purple blob would look spiffy. Not an instant giveaway line back to the shooter like the Nex, but a garish enough tracer to allow tracking origin with some effort. Or maybe purple-blue. And it should make a sound that is a bit wooshy like the Nex, but more like a warble and ominous. As for the gun itself, I am not a mapper or modder by any stretch of the imagination. However, an airsoft-rifle look would probably work nicely - I was thinking of http://img528.imageshack.us/img528/3297/icdpbnationoh5.jpg. I like the idea of a big cell cartridge thing sticking off either straight down or cocked forward, away from the shooter. Not that it shouldn't look mean and scary...it should look like the twisted future-vengeance of a paintballer. :twisted: Death by Airsoft! Argh!
