Black screen under Linux, -safe helps

Postby stickedy » Fri Oct 05, 2007 9:40 am

Yeah, I was trying Nexuiz with the new s3g driver from S3 Graphics for their PCIe chips under OpenSUSE 10.2 and when I try to start a game or a timedemo, the screen goes black and nothing further happens. When I start with the -safe parameter, the game works fine so far.
So I guess, there's one extension causing the problem. What extensions or options are disabled with -safe? I guess you can disabled this things with the configuration file, too? So I would test step by step to identify the problem... It's important for bug reporting to S3 Graphics.

Just a wild guess, but the problem sounds like reports we had from mac users after GL_ARB_texture_non_power_of_two support was added, so -notexturenonpoweroftwo might help...

Oh, I should have mentioned that I already tried this parameter as first try. I read it on some othere topic in this subforum, but it didn't help. The S3 driver supports this extension but it seems that it's not the cause or at least not the only one...
