Game is barely playable!

Postby gamer64 » Fri Oct 19, 2007 4:56 am

I am attempting to play Nexuiz on my new PC running Mandriva Linux Free 2008" (KDE 3.5) -- and can't get it to work properly... The audio is choppy and the video severely "lags". The mouse pointer barly moves (creeps) across the screen when I move the mouse. I've tried the default settings, 'lowest quality' settings, full sceen-mode and windowed-mode, lowest game resolution, disabling OpenGL shadows... I assume my video card might be the culprit, as it is an "integrated" card -- or could it be my graphical setttings in Linux?

Here are my "specs":

** Gateway GT5628 Desktop Computer
** Intel® Core™ 2 Q6600 quad core processor /w VT
** 3072 MB DDR2, 667 MHz, (PC2-5300) dual channel memory
** 500 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA II hard drive
** NVIDIA® GeForce® 8500GT /w 256MB onboard video memory
** Integrated 8-Channel (7.1) High Definition Audio

** Gateway HD Video 1680x1050 LCD monitor (currently using "VGA" connection)

Linux graphical server settings:
==========================

Graohics Card: NVIDIA > GeForce FX - GeForce 8800
Monitor: Generic > Flat Panel 1680x1050
Resolution: Automatic

(The game works great on my other laptop running Windows XP SP2 with a 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card.)

Make sure you have the latest/ best working graphics drivers. Your machine certainly can handle Nexuiz on very high settings.

That graphics card is pretty weak for gaming, (although great for playing HD video), but Nexuiz should run on it fine. Like He said^, check for newer drivers.

Well its pretty late.. but are you sure you installed your graphic drivers correctly? most linux distributions do not install those closed source 3d driver by default..
does
Code: Select all
glxinfo | grep -i string\\\|direct

output [code]direct rendering: Yes]/code] among other things? If no i'd say your installation is at fault but that can be correted :)
