Weird and annoying problem...

Postby dre » Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:42 am

Well, I'm running Ubuntu 7.10 AM64 version and I've downloaded Nexuiz from the add/remove programs section. However, when I play Nexuiz for about 5 minutes, give or take, suddenly, I experience a massive lag spike, and then Nexuiz becomes windowed, in a screen that's about 1/4 of the desktop. If I click back in it, the game returns to normal fullscreen. I'm not sure wether it's my stupidity or if there's something wrong here, but help would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Is this a reoccuring error? Have you noticed another application stealing focus?

this happens to me under linux alot. I found out the problem involved pidgin(an instant messaging program) giving me notification popups. Turning that off fixed it.

No, I haven't been running Pidgin, and I doubt it starts itself. Also, this has been happening to Cube 2 also. Sometimes when I bring Nexuiz back to full screen, my guy is running sideways without me pressing anything.

I found that Avant Window Navigator is also stealing focus a lot. If you have that you should try exiting it before playing.

Very unlikely, unless someone runs a server that does it deliberately. However there's a quick way to be shure: does it happen in local games or on other servers?

The most likely explanation is still some other app stealing the focus or your window manager is screwing up. Try running nexuiz without window manager in a new xserver (login to a text console (ctrl-alt-F1) and run "startx `which nexuiz` -- :1").

Using the glx binary might also help (get the zip from our download page, unpack it and run nexuiz-linux-glx.sh).

That seems to have been the problem. Ironicly i only increased the screen saver time for watchin movies and didn't realize till you mentioned it that i haven't had the problem since.
