Framerate drop from 140 to 1 after a few minutes of play

Forgive me if this has already been addressed, but I can't find a similar thread. I just installed Nex on my comp and experience a graphics problem. The game runs smoothly for about sixty seconds, then the framerate drops to one and the sound chops up. I've tested this on each of the graphics settings and whether I'm on low or ultra, it doesn't seem to make a difference. I'll post terminal output below.

I run Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon as OS.

CPU: Athlon X2 4600
RAM: 2GB DDR2
GFX: Nvidia GeForce 8400GS 256MB

I believe my Nvidia drivers are up to date.

I'm just guessing, again.

If you use metacity/Gnome/compiz:
Try installing another window manager like blackbox.
Log of and in again with blackbox selected for wm.
Start nexuiz in a terminal (xterm).

If that solves the problem it could have been anything session related from screensaver to tooltips.
Nowadays systems come equipped with far too much eycandy per default, that all may interfere with realtime fullscreen graphic apps like games.

did you have threaded optimalistion off in nvidia control panel ?

if on auto of on it gives choppy sound and screen

It could be a refrigeration problem. I had the same problem. Just cleaned the card a bit.
