Nexuiz doesn't start on F7 Linux

Postby Starjumper » Sat Mar 01, 2008 3:36 am

Hello,

i got your E-Mail about the new release. Because that, I thought I could try the newest release.

But I have the problem that nexuiz doesn't start under Fedora 7 x86_64.

Both Versions have the same errors (SDL and glx).

If i try the x86_64 starter i get the following error message:

Code: Select all
./nexuiz-linux-x86_64-glx
bash: ./nexuiz-linux-x86_64-glx: /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: File or Folder not found

With the 686 starter I get the following error message:

Code: Select all
./nexuiz-linux-686-glx: error while loading shared libraries: libXpm.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I hope you can help. ;)

Either update to Fedora 8, or see http://forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=2761

It is caused by the build system being a newer Linux distro, because the old system is broken (it overheats) and I had no other available computer to build the release.

So either compile from source as that forum post describes, or wait for someone to make a RPM of it.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Others affected by this could also try the binaries from http://emptyset.endoftheinternet.org/~p ... hotfix.zip - they were built on an older system.

I just unzipped http://superb-west.dl.sourceforge.net/s ... uiz-24.zip into ~/games and I get the following on F8 x86_64:
~/games/Nexuiz $ ./nexuiz-linux-glx.sh
./nexuiz-linux-glx.sh: /home/plouj/games/Nexuiz/nexuiz-linux-x86_64-glx: /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory
./nexuiz-linux-glx.sh: line 121: /home/plouj/games/Nexuiz/nexuiz-linux-x86_64-glx: Success

I have not yet tried nexuiz-24-hotfix.zip.

Instead of /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2 my system has /lib64/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2, which is provided by glibc.x86_64 2.7-2.

Additionally, I see this:
~/games/Nexuiz $ ldd nexuiz-linux-686-glx
linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000)
libm.so.6 => /lib/libm.so.6 (0x00539000)

libXdmcp.so.6 => /usr/lib/libXdmcp.so.6 (0x00836000)

$ ldd nexuiz-linux-x86_64-glx
/usr/bin/ldd: ./nexuiz-linux-x86_64-glx: /lib/ld-linux-x86-64.so.2: bad ELF interpreter: No such file or directory

The 32bit binary (./nexuiz-linux-686-glx) seems to run fine for me.
