WASD movement choppy

Postby rufsketch1 » Sun Mar 02, 2008 2:34 am

on higher quality settings, moving is very very choppy, kind of as if playing on a very laggy server. this is not to be confused with a low framerate, my framerate stays consistently high in these environments, and staying still and looking at objects rotating shows that they are not rotating in a choppy manner. i really have no clue what is causing this, but it wasn't present in the last version. it happens regardless of level, unless the level doesn't take advantage of any of the higher quality features.

i'm running an AMD athlon 3000+
1.5 GB DDR RAM
and an out of the box over clocked 7600GT
windows xp.

I don't know if this is also a problem in the linux version, as i've yet to compile from source to get around the GLIBC_2.4 issue

I noticed that as well. I turned off client side prediction and it went away.

By the way.

I also have choppy movement - but here it depends on two features:
- Client-side movement prediction
AND
-VSync (no matter if toggled over game or nvidia-settings)

If I turn one off, the movement is smooth. Both together cause in a bit choppy movement. I cannot describe it so good but I will try:
If I run forward, the game suddenly puts me back, half a step, then back again and I can run a few steps, until it happens again.

Some specs:
- Athlon64 3500+
- 1024MB DDR400 Dual
- GeForce 6800Ultra
- Arch Linux (current) - x86_64
- Nvidia drivers 169.09

If someone wants other settings or specs, just tell me.

Did you lower the effects? try the 'low' setting.
And what graphic card do you have? If its an ati it might help to disable the Vertex Buffer Objects

Zico:
Yes vid_vsync 1 and cl_movement 1 is a known bad combo in 2.4 (when you're in singleplayer/listenserver and a bit when playing online). LordHavoc don't really know why.
But 'cl_netinputpacketsperserverpacket 4' "fixes" that (it will increase bandwidth).
