Very strange textures

Postby zebediah49 » Sun Mar 23, 2008 2:55 pm

A bit of a while ago, (unfortunately, I can't remember exactly when, so I'm not sure what happened), the textures on everything were completely changed. Characters and weapons lost them, and walls/etc got new ones. The end result is that it's pretty hard to see, and it's just sorta annoying.

The textures are consistent (for example, all the fronts of stairs are the same), but they're wrong.

These images are from nexuiz 2.3 (I upgraded it to 2.4, but it didn't make much of a difference. Weapons and characters now have textures, but walls are just like before).

Specs:
Thinkpad T60, C2D 1.66
2 GB ram
ubuntu 7.10
ati radeon mobility X1400 <-- problem, methinks. But it's a laptop. And nexuiz *used* to work.
--fglrx driver. I forget the command to get more info on it, but it's the newest one that apt-get will give me, and it's the closed-source one.

The problem come from a incomplete or missed drivers install. Try to reinstall it or use the last one from the amd site.

Tried that. First unchecked driver, removed it, restarted (was stuck at low res), and reinstalled it.

Next I tried an apt-get remove fglrx, but couldn't get the open source driver to install. After like 5 hours I managed to get fglrx again.

Do you have an idea where that driver is? I've looked for it.. I assume it's not in the repository?

I use Ubuntu Gutsy with an old radeon mobility 9600. The free drivers have 3D acceleration, but it's not good enough for a fast fps like nexuiz. The propriety drivers perform much better. The one included in Gutsy was before the merge with the windows based drivers. So there are quite buggy, and cause hibernation to fail with the included kernel.
So I advise you to install the last driver manually, following this complete tutorial :

Thanks. I tried most of that (most being as much as I could do, and then two hours of trying to undo it since I couldn't boot.)

I think it missed libGL.so.1/etc. causing the installation to not go complete. it says 'save those'. I can't figure out how though.
