Slow extreme jerky movement

Postby marossity » Tue Apr 29, 2008 4:17 pm

Title says it all. The game is slow jerky it is not playable, using Ubuntu 7.10

Playing single game alone.

My specs are:

Dual boot - Ubuntu and Windows XP Home /SP2
ASUS P5B 2.13 gH , Memory 2 GB
GeForce 7600GS 512 MB
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. 0509 09/06/2006
HD (250 GB), DVD/CD ROM drive , USB SD Reader
SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD Audio
Realtek RTL8168/8111 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC
Siemens SL2 ? 141 Router/Modem
HP psc 1215, USB PC Camera
A4Tech Keyboard - A4Tech Mouse

Graphics look very good. Sound is horrible.

FPS = 1 (That's what it says)

Any advice will be appreciated.

Yes. After I downloaded the hot-fix, the frame rate went to 3 FPS then dropped to 2 FPS.

Totally unplayable, sad to say.

Nah, I don't want to load in Windows XP just for this game.
The whole point was to get some good games for GNU/Linux.
This site reads well, but ...
Not that I ever contribute anything. I couldn't program my butt out of the swimming pool.
I'll check back later to and see if things have improved. And I am sure they will.
Thanks for the replies.

Have you got the NVIDIA Linux drivers set up correctly? Run this in a terminak:
Code: Select all
glxinfo | grep direct

It should say "direct rendering: Yes". If it says no, the NVIDIA driver is not correctly setup. Works fine for many thousands of people under Linux, often quicker than under Windows.

Hi Ed,
That's interesting.

I received a "no" answer.

Now I have to ask if you could detail my next steps to correct this "no" to a "yes".

Thanks

Hold it Ed ! A UFO flew over and pointed a greenish light at my head and stole my brain.
He is gone now and after regaining my brain, I remembered how to get the Nvidia driver activated.
The game works very well now, and I can't thank you enough for taking the time to answer and solve my problem.
:P

You will have to install the closed source drivers for your graphic card.. I'm not totally sure how to do that on ubuntu but on debian its like:
apt-get install nvidia-kernel-source
module-assistant auto-install nvidia-kernel
apt-get install nvidia-glx
then changing your /etc/X11/xorg.conf to use driver nvidia instead of nv and restart x..
