Custom Nexuiz engine + custom SDL

Postby Escorter » Sun May 21, 2006 10:39 pm

Hi!

I downloaded the Nexuiz engine 2006.05.18 Beta 1 form LordHavoc's site, and I compiled the engine sources with MinGW+MSYS. I also compiled SDL, because I can't install the precompiled MinGW SDL runtime...

My compiled nexuiz-sdl.exe is running fine with the SDL dll included with Nexuiz, but if I want to use my own compiled SDL dll, the sound is very jerky.

Can somebeody explain why? That happens because I compiled SDL with GCC?

Regards,
Escorter

I never bothered/succeded to compile sdl or nexuiz-sdl under windows. That kind of stuff is just sooo much easier running linux :).
Unless you need the sdl version you can use the native (glx) version instead. (Unless == you want the 5.1 sound or you want to use dead keys for input. I did not find other differences..)

I compiled the SDL version because I don't have the DirectX 5 SDK which is required to compile the non-sdl version. :?

You only need the header files for directx. I donnu if they will work, but you can try these: http://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/release ... eaders.tgz

I tried with both Dx7 and Dx9 SDK's headers, but no success. It needs the old Dx5 (or Dx3) headers...

And I don't like directx. SDL is a great open-sourced alternative.

Actualy i can't remember downloading any DX stuff.. but i used some header file from the quake1 sources.
mingw_note.txt wrote:For compiling Darkplaces with MinGW, you need the following files which do not
come in the standard MinGW installation:
- include/ddraw.h
- include/dinput.h
- include/dsound.h
They are part of the DirectX SDK but can also be found in the original release
of Quake 1 source code (ftp://ftp.idsoftware.com/idstuff/source/q1source.zip).
