No models :(

Postby tatotato » Thu Oct 23, 2008 6:46 am

Hey everyone. I desperately need help because I love Nexuiz, but it doesn't run on my new lappy.

When I start a game, there are no models, i.e. no characters, guns or anything. The map is there, and I can see shotgun shells and can move, but no guns or characters or powerups.

Please help me.

Please provide some more information, I am sure somebody will be able to help.

Did you download the version 2.4.2 from this website?

What Operating System are you running?

What system specs does your Notebook have (roughly, RAM. CPU, GPU)?

Did you try re-downloading, extracting and running the game directly from the newly created folder?

Maybe it also helps to update your drivers, I read about some OpenGL issues with ATI GPUs, but that is a wild guess.

Welcome to the game, anyhow!

Sorry for the lack of verbosity, here are my specs:

Yes, I'm using version 2.4.2 which I obtained from this site.

OS: WinXP, SP3.

RAM:1GB DDR,
CPU:Intel Centrino 1.9GHz
GPU:Intel 915M <-- I think this may be the problem :(

Drivers are recent, but I will have another look.

Thanks for the reply,

I had this problem and resolved it with a redownload of Nexuiz. It's not uncommon.
If it's not that, it is likely to be something with your graphics card/drivers.
Setting gl_combine 0 has also been suggested as something to try.

I'll add this to the download page.

I'm seeing the same in Linux Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid. The upgrade gives 2.4.2 and the previous 2.4 on 8.04 worked fine. I've tried reinstalling with no change.

I don't know what setting "gl_combine 0" means or where to set that - it's not obviously a variable in the Nvidia X server options.

I've posted also to the main bug site at https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nexuiz/ but it's not clear those are being assigned.

I don't know what changed.. I just tried alternate servers, game type and host, including the beta test CTF, and two of them downloaded files zzz_???compat????.pk3. I don't know if that was what helped but now all servers I'm trying are showing items and players!!

There is definitelly a problem between Nexuiz and new Ubuntu 8.10.

I have the same problem, everything is there except for weapons and other players. I also don't have sound in the game, but i won't bother with that until i fix this first.

I use 64-bit version of Interpid and NVIDIA 177 drivers. Processor is C2D and graphics is GeForce 7600 Go (it's a laptop). Verzion of the game is 2.4.2 and it worked flawlesly with 32-bit Ubuntu 7.04.

It works fine for me now. The sound problem is solved (it's actually an ALSA bug in the pulseaudio module, but we have a workaround for it in darkplaces svn), as workaround you can use pasuspend. And I can see players just fine.

However, installing the nvidia driver did not work at first (locale problems caused it to fail installing), and desktop effects cost about half the fps, so make sure you disable them.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

It would help me if you could remember exactly what you did. :(
