Crashing after graphics change, forced resolution

I've been playing nexuiz just fine a while but I took a break for a few weeks. when I tried to fire it up yesterday, the game would crash to the desktop and give me a weird zoomed in resolution on my desktop (I'm using Hardy 8.04). Even going under administration wouldn't change the resolution back, I would have to log out and log back in. I updated my drivers using envy, and now the game loads, but now every time I try to change the graphics settings the game crashes. The resolution is set to "custom" and cannot be changed without crashing, even setting one in the .cfg file does nothing. I cannot figure out why this would suddenly happen. I would post a log file but can't figure out how to log one, I can't run nexuiz-linux-686-glx from the terminal because it says it's an unknown command even though it's in the current directory. HELP!

Hardy 8.04
Radeon x1800xt with latest drivers using envy

It is a known bug that vid_restart crashes the fglrx driver. Simply don't use vid_restart until AMD fixes this. To change the resolution, just change the settings but do NOT hit apply, then quit the game, and start it again.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

thanks man

I came back today and started up nexuiz and it worked without a hitch without cahnging anything.... Divine computer intervention I suppose

From crashing on start up, to being locked in resolution, to working perfectly by not changing anything. Computers are strange
