Friends can't see my temporary server?

Postby Krmf » Fri Nov 14, 2008 7:00 am

I just recently downloaded Nexuiz and I think it's amazing. I'm hooked.

However, I ran into some problems when I tried to use the create option in multiplayer. When I set up a game, I'm the only one that can see my server. The friends I'm trying to play Nexuiz with have the same problem on their computers as well.

I'm not really sure what to do, but I've been told that my port 26000 might be blocked.
I'm using norton '07 btw and I have no idea how to operate it.

Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Servers created in the client interface are only visible in your LAN.

Over the internet, they are not, as such servers generally have worse performance than dedicated servers.

To override this, you can set "sv_public 1" and then "heartbeat" on the console after you set up your server, and your friend will find it in the server browser.

What always works: your friend could connect to your server using the "connect" command with your IP, like "connect 1.2.3.4" if that is your IP.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Hopefully that radio button will be restored, it was a mistake to justify the removal of that feature due to 'poor' performance on a temporary server.

No,we've been through this a several times,it's not only there to prevent others from joining a poor server, but to prevent the host too (no zerg rush kekekeke).
However,I could see a use for a help button in the menu, where those things are explained ingame - not everybody reads documentation doh!

You obviously have never played on one.

This will not change before darkplaces gets a feature to host the listen server in a second thread, so it is independent from client performance.

There is no need to have such a fascist attitude on a temporary server, all that complicates is a couple friends wanting to play a mixed LAN/online game with each other, or for me to quickly show off a map in development without having to upload it to a dedicated server each time.

Maybe you should stick to needlessly long words instead of namecalling and already-disproven examples, TVR :P

The map won't run anyway unless uploaded on a HTTP server and sv_curl_defaulturl set right.

That is if the assumption cURL redirects are used, but I actually upload to an external, non-direct file host such as FileFront, and require a separate download.

It is both much simpler than to either port-forward a dedicated server, and much faster than to upload to some other dedicated server.
