Mouse LAG

Postby thecrazy » Tue Jun 06, 2006 9:48 am

Hi, im having HUGE mouse lag in this game,
I dont know whats going on, the gfx look fine but all the way starting when the intro movie comes up i start having this lag. In game its all smoot frame rate but the mouse lag makes it unplayable. Were talkin i move left and it takes a good second for the game to react.

Im under gentoo linux and im not having any lag in other games like chromium or kde etc...
I have 1GB ram, an Athlon xp 2600+ with a radeon 9600se with the latess ati-drivers.

Suggestions????

I have this too, with the latest fglrx drivers. It is particularly noticable in the menu.

Just with the latest drivers Dave? Did other versions work fine?

no, my mouse has always lagged with nexuz-linux. I have tried different versions of the drivers, and different mice, but the problem persists,
I just compensate by shooting lots of rockets and mortars; those have a large radius.
Using nexuiz-windows, the mousespeed was fine. Also, my mouse runs realtime in XGL, although the game is unplayable running XGL since it doesn't load all of the extensions.

I think XGL uses the OpenGL stuff exclusivly thats why games do not work with it..
I'm using debian unstable with a nv6600gt and everything include the mouse does work fine. I can use both the -sdl and -glx version of Nexuiz without problems.

Hmm there somethings comes to mind.. do you have dga disabled in your xfree/xorg config? Something like
SubSection "extmod"
Option "omit xfree86-dga"
EndSubSection
Try to remove that so that the dga module can be loaded. You will have to restart X afterwards and test Nexuiz again.

I do not have that in my xorg.conf
I do have the extmod Module loaded:
Code: Select all
Section "Module"
   Load  "i2c"
   Load  "bitmap"
   Load  "ddc"
   Load  "dri"
   Load  "extmod"
   Load  "freetype"
   Load  "glx"
   Load  "int10"
   Load  "type1"
   Load  "vbe"
EndSection

but that is the only time extmod is mentioned.

I just copied that bit from some webpage as i do not have a xorg.conf at hand. Also it was just some idea. I never had such a problem..
Think its fine as long as you do not have such a "omit xfree86-dga" in your file.

I just noticed that the mouse lag disappears in the 'Join' section of the menu. It reappears if I go to 'Create' or 'Options'

Edit: the mouse does not disappear, the lag disappears :)

Still lagging

Postby thecrazy » Tue Jun 06, 2006 7:57 pm

Hi guys,

I checked my xorg.conf i dont have ommit xfree-dga either
i clicked on the join menu and in my case i still have lag in there

(btw is your join menu empty or is it populating with servers as it should?)

I just loaded a game by accident after stumbling in the join menu and realized that the lagg doesnt only affect the mouse... every input is delayed.
I press a key to turn on the keyboard and it takes a second b4 the screen reacts to it even though the rendering is very smoot.

another thing i realized, when i first start the game for a few seconds i have a black screen with a mouse cursor, there is no lag there at al until the intro movie comes up. Though it seems to me that the intro movie is having some issues playing, its skipping.

Seems to me as this might be related to the sound issue?? when the video skips the sound seems to skip at the same time. The guy says welcome to NEX NEX NEX NEX NEX NEX NEXZUIS.... really weird. (yes i do use -sndstereo)

The 1.5 package is listed as unstable in the gentoo portage tree... i guess thats why.
im going to unmerge the 1.5 and try 1.2 which is listed as stable will see what happens.

My Join menu populates with servers. My mouse lag seems to come from the menu, I think.
