For some reason, C.Brutail, the Windows version of Nexuiz works perfectly under Vista (Somehow, I can turn on OpenGL shaders, Realtime Dynamic and World lighting, reflections, and I can turn the geometry and texture detail all the way up :? ) and it only lags in Linux. I've tried the GLX and SDL ones. The SDL version is a bit faster but they both have the mouse lag, both in the menus and in the battlefield.

Any ideas?

Major Nexuiz Mouse Lag.

Postby V17747N » Sun Jul 12, 2009 8:44 pm

I am experiencing a ton of lag on both the menu and in game using nexuiz and ubuntu 9.04 jaunty jackalope edition. anyway, every graphics thing is off as well as v sync. even went as far as to turn sound off. (sound doesnt lag by the way). I am running this on a stock HP Pavilion DV6000 only no web cam. you can find the specs here: http://www.pcmech.com/article/hp-pavi... and while it's an ok computer. it isnt running this game. Nexuiz did successfully run on windows but due to HP being fucking cock suckers about getting me a restore disk, i switched to Linux.

the problem is further explained here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKoNIixS7xo

i hope i can find some solutions soon, because this game is fun as hell.

Did you install the "restricted drivers", how Ubuntu called them, from nvidia?
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Major Nexuiz Mouse Lag.(reply)

Postby V17747N » Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:07 am

I've finally, through about 300 pages in obscure places, discovered what my issues was/is...

I forgot to update the driver for my Graphics card (classic noob mistake).

For those of you that haven't tried this method, in ubuntu linux (9.04 jaunty jackalope) do the following to fix the proble (this will also work with certain wifi cards then to connect to the net you just click the network icon in the top right corner):

1) click System>Administration>Hardware Drivers

It will begin searching for drivers on the machine.

2) Select your graphics card's driver, (mine was the top entry, had the biggest number, and said "Recommended" next to it)

3) Click "activate"

wait for it to do it's thing and restart your comp. then you should be ok. I was for lack of a better word "giddy" for hours finally getting to play AssaultCube and Nexuiz. And to be honest, they run faster on Linux than Vista.

I hate Vista...it smells funny.

If I enable VSync, I get mouse lag with nexuiz.exe and nexuiz-sdl.exe. Using Windows XP SP3.

Sorry for not replying for a while! :) Nexuiz performance has improved a bit lately (after reformatting my hard drive because of a faulty Intel graphics driver). The linux-glx one now appears to be outperforming Vista now! I can now use the Ultimate effects preset, but with Bloom, Offset Mapping, and Realtime World Lighting turned off. The mouse lag is gone in MOST maps, and I get around 26-40 fps (decent speed). It's no longer much of a problem.

Thanks anyway to all of the Nexuiz forum members for supplying me with endless amounts of info! (I'm such a n00b)

I figured out what causes mouse lag for me on Windows and Linux. V-Sync! I am using an NVIDIA 9800 GT, and on Linux I can disable frame buffering with nvidia-settings, but I cannot do that on Windows, even with Rivatuner. It's hard to follow player movement without V-Sync.

Anyone know how to disable buffering for OpenGL on Windows?
