ATi's Catalyst 9.1 fixes bug

Postby Urmel » Sun Feb 01, 2009 3:04 pm

I've got good news for all the Radeon owners running Nexuiz 2.42 on Windows.

With the current Catalyst driver, the crashes happening while vid_restart or quitting Nexuiz are fixed.

So I'd strongly recommend an update! :)

Are those OSS drivers? Or proprietary ones?
Why is it taking so long for ATi OSS drivers to be fast?

When it's called Catalyst, it's never OSS.

Bad news for owners of older Radeons running Nexuiz on Linux: ATi completely drops the support of those GPUs. So the current Catalyst 9.3 is the last that supports the R300 through R500 series (all X models from X300 to X1950XTX).

Ah, when it has a good name, it can't be OSS. I see good == propretary.
If one is going to use closed drivers why not use an Nvidia Card with Nvidia drivers: they are good and are fast.

The only reason one would get an ATI card is if one wanted good and OSS drivers. If those don't exist now there's no reason to buy an ATI card on linux yet.

No. "Catalyst" is just an ATi trademark (that doesn't really sound so awesome to me btw) and for that may not be used by an open source project. Not my fault, is it?

Why not? Many people already have a Radeon. They'd have to spend money on a Geforce. Reason enough?

Yeah, ture, unless you're up to develop an OSS Radeon driver. :)

Question, what made you start a discussion about OSS drivers in a thread that started with
