Aircraft had noisy engine when flying over a country.

When I was in europe, and the aircraft was flying over a country, the engine was noisy.
I think this was because it was getting clogged by the soot from the ever burning trees below.
I think this is a bug, that the trees in that country are never not on fire.
Why are burning trees that never fail to burn forever chosen in said country rather than normal nice green trees.

Now is it, that one does not even simply FLY over said country!?
