Ports open thru Firewall?

Postby jg6913 » Mon Apr 06, 2009 3:42 am

Hey all. Quick question for all who are interested.

I use the Untangle Network Gateway. Which ports do I need to open on the Firewall module so I can online multi-play? I know about UTP 26000, but I must not be setting it correctly because I still don't see any servers up until I turn off the Firewall, and I don't really want that if I can help it.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

Outgoing:
udp/26000 - game server
udp/27950 - master server

You can also set a fixed port for incoming packets by setting "Client UDP Port" in the network settings.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Normally, outgoing ports are opened automatically, and you shouldn't have to do anything.
Vista might get in the way, and you might have to authorize, but you would see web-browsing problems it arbitrary high ports were blocked for outgoing.

What kind of firewall are we talking about? Hardware, software, which OS?

Precisely what does this buy you?
Is it necessary?
I did it, but see no difference in game play against remote servers with it open.

It simply helps with firewall rules.. you can allow that single source port access to the outside. Thats all
