I've been working through the campaign and having got to this level, think the target is a little optimistic if this is supposed to be someones first ever exposure to race mode. I've clocked a 33.6 on it now which isn't far off but will seem very unrealistic for a new player. I would suggest raising it to perhaps 36.0 seconds as this can be done with the laser.

My main problem with this level is actually that it's just not fun to play. I can't play it for more than about 5 minutes without getting bored as there is absolutely nothing pushing you to go faster. This is nothing to do with the map as that's OK with other players, it's the campaign level that's wrong. For the moment bots can't race which obviously is a major thing but also there's no music. This map needs music.

The map has music, but only if you have the libmodplug library installed if you are on Linux.

But as there was a legal problem with that music track, 2.5.1 again has ogg vorbis music on that track...
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Interesting because I'm running 2.5 + 2.5.1 patch and have no music on that map. I did check the .mapinfo files and noticed the change from the .xm file to cdtrack 7 but this isn't playing for some reason. Also there is a zero length dn-refueled.xm file in the patch. Is this supposed to be like this?

edit: I've just done some further testing and with my setup only cdtracks 10-18 exist. Is this consistent with the full 2.5.1?

No, but the patch does nothing that could break the other cd tracks.

Try:

cd loop brainsukker

does that work?

Then try:

g_cdtracks_remaplist
ls sound/cdtracks/*

and post the output of it.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

The patch indeed has a bug.

If you are on Linux or OS X, you can fix the pk3 by this command in a terminal:

zip -d data/data20090501patch.pk3 sound/cdtracks/thru-the-mirror.ogg sound/cdtracks/subcities.ogg sound/cdtracks/neuronal-diving.ogg sound/cdtracks/infight.ogg sound/cdtracks/digital-pursuit.ogg sound/cdtracks/chaos-fog.ogg sound/cdtracks/calling-bogus.ogg sound/cdtracks/breakdown-easy.ogg sound/cdtracks/brainsukker.ogg

The release zip does not have this issue.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.

Hi,
Could you explain for slowpokes how should player get a speed? I think a little howto for newbies will be useful ;) if i go forward I try to jump and then shoot down, i see only one-time acceleration and it really hurts =) it lets me shoot all my jumps so i always run out of health >_< If i go backward i don't feel any acceleration. Maybe i do smth wrong *scratch* but getting a 100 deaths per map became boring action which gives no playing experience.
P.S. I saw videos and it's the only reason why i still haven't do an urpme nexuiz because i see that it's possible :) I hope that not only pro is able to pass this level.

Hello and welcome - due to unfortunate recent developments most of the Nexuiz community has abandoned this forum (see viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6079). You might want to post your questions to the xonotic forum at www.xonotic.org, where most of the Nexuiz community can be found nowadays. For sure people will be able to help you there.

As for getting speed I'd recommend the "Nexuiz in depth" youtube channel of our dear fellow GreEn'mArine (see this thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=4717). Have a look at the last episodes (circle jumping and ramp jumping), they are very useful to understand how the physics of Nexuiz work.

Also you need to keep bunny hopping if you want to gain speed, since every contact with solid surfaces (such as the floor) will slow you down. You can keep the "jump" key pressed all the time in order to jump immediately when you hit the ground.

For quickly getting speed when standing it is also useful to shoot the laser against a nearby wall instead of the floor - and to keep jumping while doing that. Don't know if it is possible to do that in Level 27, though.
<Community>: Why was the name "Nexuiz" licensed to IllFonic in a way that allows IllFonic to use the name without any suffix or subtitle for a commercial console game?
