Freezing on OSX

Postby Zardoz » Tue May 05, 2009 7:00 am

Hello all! I started playing Nexuiz on OSX with the release of 2.5 and so far have loved it. Nice work! I haven't played much FPS since Quake2 so it's been fun to get online shoot things again.

But with 2.5.1 on OSX the game will randomly freeze a few seconds into the *second* match played. The first match goes OK, then the map voting, then the new map loads, then the countdown: 3... 2... 1... BEGIN and *poof* everything stops. Or not, sometimes it works just fine.

I've also had it freeze while just spectating.

The game keeps playing for others of course. They kill my now soulless body still in the game and the server still shows me as connected when clearly I'm not (ultimately the connection times out). The client on the Mac is locked up solid, necessitating ssh-ing in from another machine and killing the Nexuiz process (twice) to get the Mac back under user control.

I should note that I've only seen this behavior when connected to my own dedicated Linux server. Of course since it's random that doesn't necessarily mean anything, it's just easier to set fraglimit to something like "3" and play some bots on my own server :).

So, I get that this isn't a lot to go on. I've tried a lot: I reinstalled 2.5.1 on both the client and the server, reset my config.cfg, I tried keeping logs on both the client and the server but they don't seem to show anything. The logging just stops when the client freezes.

Can someone give me some hints to help debug this?

Same problem here

Postby kaf » Thu May 07, 2009 8:49 pm

I have the same problem. 2.5.1 crashes and have severe steering problems like if some key was brocken and moving for one side.
The crash usually happens on the first 5 seconds playing a random map. The steering problem are completely random and usually I have to die a few times and the problem goes.

Any help? Thanks!

The crash problem only happened on 2.5.1, but the steering problem happened with 2.5. I'm using macos 15.6 on a 2Mhz Imac with 1 G ram.

I have the exact same. I've only had it while playing an 1on1.

yes it does, but you have to hit Enter twice after pressing that to actually force quit Nexuiz. ;)

pressing that opens the Force Quit window, then Enter the first time hits Force Quit for the currently selected application (Nexuiz in this case) and hitting Enter the second time confirms that you actually want to force quit that app.

so its cmd+option+esc followed by enter 2x

Try r_coronas_occlusionquery 0

Best way would be if you could run nexuiz in some debugger and post crash log.

I've found that the SDL version (in addition to being a few FPS faster) doesn't freeze like the "regular" version, it crashes.

What's good about this is OS X does automatic crashlogs (optionally sending them to Apple, do the Nexuiz devs get those ultimately I wonder?).

So i have an OS X crashlog up here http://pastebin.com/md8906eb. Is this at all useful? (sadly I have more). This happens a few seconds into a map, usually on the second map after a game.
