If you've had any problems with Nexuiz, or would like to report bugs, post here.

And the moment I write that convoluted wordy post, it finally goes down. I'm tempted to posit the theory that this is the sound thread lock bug (of which, I see retnuh pasted a CrashReport log on; it'd have been nice to bring that back to this thread, non? ;) ). Anyroad, I could only get this to happen in SDL and not AGL.

But, for the sake of completeness I've pasted a generated backtrace here. This a Mac OS X generated one, but it should be roughly equivalent to a gdb bt, I believe. If a more complete one (including *ALL* processes running on my machine at the time of the crash) is required, well, I can try and get one of those.

I've not seen this in the svn versions I've been running sporadically, but I've not been playing any significant amount of Nexuiz recently. So, according to the small amount of non-scientific general usage tests I've done, I'd be tempted to guess that this (the crashing bug; have no idea about the movement one touched on) will be fixed in 2.5.2 and is not a Mac OS X specific bug.

EDIT: I realise that the minimal back trace above doesn't give conclusive proof that this is the same bug, so I'm trying to get it to crash while gdb is attached to it. If it proves to be otherwise, or seems that way, I'll look into filing a new bug at that dev bug tracker if that's possible.

You can try that, but I'm pretty sure that won't fix the problem entirely. I only cleared .nexuiz so I could start from a clean slate when testing it. It appears to be fixed in the svn -- though if you don't compile Nexuiz yourself, that's of little consequence.

I can't quite seem to reproduce this entirely with gdb attached, because when I do attach gdb, I also happen to lose sound. That probably means I'm doing something wrong, but I haven't really done much else to dick around with it to confirm if it is indeed the same bug or not. So, despite only having minor anecdotal evidence, I still am of the belief that it's this bug.

it solved the crash issue! But the steering problems still continue... However this is an evolution!

I'm a bit confused. I am using Nexuiz 2.5.1 on my Mac OS X 10.5.6 and am experiencing the freezes mentioned in this thread. I clicked on the link to Bug #21, and people there mention fixing the problem via the use of a 'patch'. I'm not sure what patch they are referring to. I have never thought of upgrading to 2.5.svn (is this the right terminology?), but I would if it would fix this freezing issue.

Should I 'patch'? Upgrade to 2.5.svn? Or should I 'clear .nexuiz as proposed by spectator/lixi' (I'm not exactly sure what this means)?

Thanks much!

[Edit: I noticed that version 2.5.2 is "due in 5 days". If this is the case, perhaps I should wait and see if the bug is fixed there, as spectator/lixi expects. Perhaps a clean install of 2.5.2 (as opposed to upgrading, if this is even possible) would be the best bet here. Any comments would be helpful, as I am somewhat of a computer novice compared to most other posters here.]

My friends and I have been holding off for a couple weeks now to play Nexuiz again (in anticipation of version 2.5.2, so the freezing issue is fixed). I am a patient person, but it *would* be nice to know if I am waiting for nothing or if 2.5.2 will actually come out soon.

Apparently version 2.5.2 was due a few weeks ago, and it got pushed back to 7/27/09. Currently it is 7 days late. Am I correct to assume that 2.5.2 should be coming out soon? I am not bitching (I know people aren't getting paid for their efforts -- by the way, *thanks for your efforts*), I am just wondering...

Beta builds can now be found in this topic: http://www.forums.alientrap.local/viewtopic.php?t=5231

Please test and see if you still get that freeze :D

I'd be glad to help, but I'll have to admit that I am a novice when it comes to this sort of thing. How do I actually get the beta version of Nexuiz? The topic you linked to gives this link:

http://rm.endoftheinternet.org/~nexuiz/builds/

Clicking on that link gives me this file list:

So... which one(s) do I need to download? I have two computers (desktop & laptop), and I would install the 2.5.2 beta on my laptop. I am OK with losing my copy of 2.5.1 on my laptop (I just use my laptop Nexuiz for dinking around), so should I just use the NEWEST 'patch' file to upgrade from 2.5.1 to 2.5.2 (beta)? Or are there other/multiple files that I would need?

Also, if there is compiling involved, I might need some help. I have little experience in this area and have only compiled something on a mac once ever.

Thanks!

There's no compiling involved :)

Its fairly simple, you either download the full NEWEST, extract, and play, or download the NEWEST patch, and extract it to an existing 2.5.1 directory, so that files are correctly overwritten. The result is the same, the patch saves bandwidth :)
Meh.
