Okay, from what I could tell, I have "Intel(R) 915 Express Chipset family". However, when I attempted to download files for this, I wasn't sure which ones I wanted, and it seemed like they were all the same.

You can find drivers of them at the intel site:
http://support.intel.com/support/chipsets/
http://support.intel.com/support/chipse ... 011594.htm
http://support.intel.com/support/chipse ... 009247.htm
But you should make really sure you get right one..
You can find a program for this here:
http://support.intel.com/support/chipse ... 009266.htm

That's what I used. I downloaded this:

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts ... n&lang=eng

And it didn't help.

How about the GF card? Was it in when You bought the PC? If not, I'd suggest You to change it to the old card and look if there's similar probs.

It's always a bit difficult with Dell or other manufactorers who avoid using standard components, what sometimes causes problms when changing built in stuff.

Nah, the geforce came built in.

Are we sure that weird Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility is the correct thing? It doesn't take very long to install, and doesn't tell me to restrt when it's done.

The thing with the driver install not taking long and not needing a restart usualy mean one of thise two things: Its the correct driver, but you computer alredly had teh seamr or a newr version installed. (computer keeps the alredy installed one) OR Its the wrong driver.

First picees of info we would need to confirm is: What Brand and model is the computer. Its a Dell so the forst part we know. The second part (model) is usualy stamped or similar somewere on the box itself.

With this info it should be possile to lookup what hardware this machine uses and then download the drivers for this hardware directly from the hardware mfg's.

[m$ rant]
Its so sad.. that when one _dont_ need to restart windows one usualy asume the install faild >.<
[/m$ rant]

<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.

<Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D

There are several strings of numbers on the side of my dell, on a sticker. Three of them are labeled:

Service Tag:898WM71

Express Service Code: 17973412957

Product Key: ????????????????????????????

*edit by esteel* Product key removed..
