Windows: Crashes While Loading

Postby TehGoatLord » Fri May 08, 2009 5:56 pm

I am using Windows XP SP1
Nexuiz Version is 2.51 or w/e
My specs are as follows

Intel Pentium 4 2.4 GHz
512mb RAM
nVIDIA GeForce 4 MX4000 128 mb
nVidia forceware 98.something(The latest I downloaded it from nVidia)

My Game crashes when loading the models/players/crash.zym

I tried lowering most of my settings. It still crashes.
My AGP doesn't support Pixel Shaders. So I turned off Shaders in the settings.

Upgrade your computer. XP on 512mb of ram isnt a good idea. Nexuiz on the same machine is going to fail like the bank bailout.

There are certain technical tweaks that can be done for nexuiz to increase game performance such as r_showsurfaces 3 but in your case I'd definately recommend a system upgrade.

Nexuiz can be very demanding on graphics. I've seen it BARELY run on lowish settings on a pentium4 2.5ghz 768ram system but it was only at around 30fps.

Hope this gives you some indication, you could always try DSN or "Damn Small Nexuiz" at this thread:

Hope this helps, other people might supply tweaks that can improve your gameplay :)
Possibly not the worst mapper in the world.

win. :D

I love the title of this one. Windows crashes while loading. :D That's nothing new. Nexuiz crashing might be, but Windows? Nope.

That's plenty of RAM for XP and plenty of RAM for Nexuiz on low settings. When XP came out few systems even had 512Mb RAM so there's no way you can say it's not enough for XP. I've run Nexuiz on much less. This is unlikely to be related to crashing either.

Do check your page file settings though and monitor RAM usage during launch. Does the system run out of RAM? If so, turn off some crappy things in the background or increase your pagefile.

Are you running the SDL or non-SDL version? Have you tried both? Try reinstalling graphics drivers (before any illeducated person suggests it, no, the latest drivers won't support the MX4000 so 95 series is good).

Well, i turned off the pixel shader thing and it worked. But it lags like my granma playing soccer.

Im hopefully getting a 128 mb geforce fx with shader 2. But for the while, what can i do to attain a minimum of 50 frames per second?

Set effects to low.
Reduce textures and models quality, use texture compression, disable gibs, coronas, decals, disable dynamic lightning.

You should also try enabling/disabling the GLSL and VBO settings in the video menu and check what this does to your FPS. Play with at least one bot.

dont get gforce FX, they were worst gfx cards in history, it will be total waste of money, yes they do support glsl 2.0 but they are too slow to make it playable
for nexuiz you need minimum gforce 6600gt with 256mb ram to start having a nice experience
