No audio on Ubuntu 5.10

Postby madmonk80 » Fri Mar 03, 2006 3:57 pm

Hi all!
First of all I'd like to thank all the developers of this wonderful opensource game! I really enjoy it!! :P

I play Nexuiz both on Window$ and Linux and I have to say that on linux it seems to work very much better! I get very high results concerning the graphic aspect...much more fluid and nice looking.

I use Ubuntu 5.10 distro and my only problem with Nexuiz is that It doesn't seem to be able to run my pci sound card...

My sound card is (lspci output): Multimedia audio controller: Ensoniq 5880 AudioPCI (rev 02)

Here is the terminal output after I start nexuiz-linuz.sh:

I have to say that my soundcard works great with other linux games...

Can anybody help me? What is the problem? What could I do?

Thanks!

try adding -sndstereo and/or -sndspeed 48000 to your startup command this is a know issue with cards that dont suport 44100 kHz sound native.

Thank you very much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

./nexuiz-linux-686-sdl -sndstereo

Ok...now sound works....but I experienced too much lag!!!!!

When there was no sound I played very fluid...

I hope it's the bandwidth saturation here..I'll try again tonight...

But could it be that audio make lag???

Well ofcoz the audio playing takes some CPU, but I'd say you have real crappy hardware if you could notice the difference, so I'd say no; it shouldn't.. But Ill leve it to someone else to suggest things, caus I dont know :)

It worked good turning off all the effects, txt good, res 800x600

With Winow$ works great at 1024 and several effects on...

I guess that are Ati linux drivers that sucks...or maybe I should config something in my Ubuntu!!! but what???

Yes, ATI does not put as much effort into fglrx as they do in their windows drivers. I also run slower in linux than in windows, due to the disparity in the driver quality. I don't expect to see them releasing anything like Catalyst for LInux.

I think too it might be just because of the ati linux drivers.. to bad nvidia seems to be much better there.
But in case its not fast enough you can take a look at this post:
