old computer, any hope ?

i used to play nex problem free on my macbook
don't have my mac for a bit and i'm trying to play on a very old computer with win 98
i can dl nexuiz and run but it has no character models or guns and the server button does not light up so i can look at maps and see invisble bots and thats about all
any suggestions at what i caould try to fix these things?

Hardware specs? I wouldn't exactly recommend running this on a socket 486 CPU and an S3 Virge.

with "hardware specs" he meant what hardware does this very old PC have? You should at least tell us what kind of CPU is running in there, how much RAM you have and what Graphics Board you use in this old PC of yours. Might be that the hardware is not able to run Nexuiz at all, but let's see.

oh... this indeed seems pretty low-end. But in order to have people help you here, you could try to post some more details. On how many GHz does your CPU run? What kind of Geforce MX is it? Geforce 2 MX? Geforce 4 MX?

Although I have to admit I do not know whether Nexuiz is able to run on any one of these. Maybe someone else could help you out here, but please post a bit more detail as suggested.

hmm not sure the ghz ... how could i check?
and it's geforce 2 MX
it sorta seems like it should work somehow as the maps look ok and i can see gun fire just no guns ..or models

Hmm you could try reducing detail to the minimum, if you haven't already. But since the minimum hardware requirements start at 5700 FX (which is, as I believe, a Geforce 5 Series) I do not have much hope that you could play Nexuiz on that machine. Also note that you only have half the amount of RAM that is required...

You could also try to use the Damn Small Nexuiz (http://sourceforge.net/projects/dsn/), which eliminates lots of things that eat up performance. But if I remember correctly, this wouldn't be compatible with most free for all Nexuiz Servers so you couldn't play online with that.
