Crashing PC Because Of Nexuiz

Postby Ozomahtli » Sun Jul 19, 2009 9:20 am

Hey guys, I have a little problem that can be very annoying after a while: My PC crases at least
3 times a day.
I have it since I installed nexuiz so I think it's because of nexuiz.
I work with Windows vista :s (maybe that can help for finding a solution)

So does anybody has a solution for this problem?

Please provide more information. Hardware in your PC and GPU driver version for example. I won't be of much help, but others who know more about this might actually be able to help you then.

When does your computer crash? If it happens at any point after a clean startup without you running Nexuiz then it is certainly not Nexuiz.

The windows version doesn't get installed. Means no dll libraries written into the windows directories, no entries or changes in the registry, nothing. Nexuiz just gets unpacked on some harddisk directory of your choice, nothing else.

So Nexuiz just isn't able to change anything in your whole configuration. There must be something else you changed at the same time. Or Nexuiz is the first application that really forces your system to work and you have thermal problems or somehting.

But if you are a computer noob, it will be a long, long way for you to find the reason for your system crashes (btw. is it crashes, or is it freezes?)

Click on the Windows pearl (AKA Start Button), type 'dxdiag' (w/o quote marks) into the search box at the bottom of the start menu and press Enter.

If you are asked to connect to the internet to see if your drivers are signed, click no. The next window that appears contains lots of good info about your computer that you may need, but the Display tab will tell you about your Graphics Hardware\GPU and it's drivers.

Enjoy.
My will be done.

You need to wait. It unfreezes after a minute or smth. I have same problem in one pc and I think it happens while nexuiz is precaching its contents.

Btw, msinfo32 gives more and better information.

What you're describing there ozomathly is a freeze. which is usually caused by erroneous or incompatible RAM modules, maybe erroneous or completely missing mainboard drivers. But can also be caused by a crappy power supply.

To find out your hardware components, there are free tools like CPU-Z and GPU-Z. The first one posts your CPU, Mainboard and RAM modules. The latter shows which graphics card you've got and gives you information about the installed driver.

What was your native language again?
