Relflections not working right

Postby xplinux557 » Mon Aug 17, 2009 9:03 pm

Hi

I have Nexuiz for Ubuntu and for Windows Vista on my laptop and they both run okay. Usually, everything that I have on Vista runs horribly, and I usually end up using Ubuntu more and more often. But recently, I've noticed that Nexuiz on Vista is outperforming Ubuntu in terms of graphics. For example, in both the Linux SDL and GLX versions, whenever I try to tick the box for reflections and click Apply Immediately, they still don't turn on! When I'm using the M$ Windows GLX or SDL versions, reflections work perfectly (and I still get decent FPS, by the way). The same happens in Linux whenever I enable Gloss Deluxe Mapping: Nothing. Is this an X Server bug or a problem with the Nexuiz for Linux? :?

the problem is having both on your system. just use the vista exec if you want the looks, and the linux exec if you want the fps.

But I'm getting bad looks and bad FPS on Linux. Usually, I get around 10-30 FPS on Linux on moderate-lowish graphics and 20-50 FPS on Vista with high graphics! Why is Ubuntu acting up like this?

Here's my specs:
1.6 GHz Intel Pentium Dual-Core
2 GB RAM
Intel 965GMA Express Chipset

I'm using Ubuntu 8.04,fully up-to-date, and Vista Home Premium, also up-to-date.
Any ideas?

You need decent Intel drivers for linux iirc. I think I read that the Ubuntu 9.10 Kernel will have better Intel gfx chip support.

Not even sure, the new drivers architecture give much slower 3D performance :

An I can confirm it with my eeepc running archlinux.

About the reflections effect, to see it you need to enable OpenGL 2.0 shaders. But on my eeepc this cause the framerate to drop, like if using a software rendering mode.
