Game hangs when playing over the net

Postby Loki » Sun Oct 11, 2009 3:04 am

Hi,
I'm experiencing a bug which actually makes it impossible to play the game over the net. Every 6 seconds a clock appears in the upper left corner of the screen and the game hangs for one or two seconds, which is enough to be killed. Tweaking network settings in Nexuiz doesn't help. Any ideas/suggestions about how to solve this? Nexuiz version is 2.5.2 (and I have no experience in network gaming)

what kind of network set up are you using i,e. WiFi, small home network with other users, dial up.
also have you got programs that use large amounts of bandwidth like skype or bit-torrent running.

I have a Wi-fi network with a Linksys router if that matters. No programs are running in the background. Internet connection speed is 500Kb/s. Actually, I've pinged my router and I'm getting short lags every few pings (like a few hundred ms instead of 2-3ms). Could this be the reason? And if so, what would you recommend to do?

WiFi is not a good idea for any thing but browsing the internet. as the packet stream can come under interference in the best of conditions. if you can plug in a cable when you want to play games over the net like nexuiz. if using a cable is not possible for you then down load netStumbler to help find blind spots or see problems in the wifi signal

OK thanks for your help
OT - I still wonder why a Macbook doesn't have lag/signal strength problems in the same location..... will have to look for a new wifi adapter then or use cable.
