nexuiz.exe detected as keylogger

Postby AnArKiSt » Mon Oct 26, 2009 10:17 pm

I use the free version of the security software called Online Armor (Homepage is http://www.tallemu.com/). This serves as a firewall and prevents programs from performing potentially malicious and/or harmful activity without my consent.

It detected nexuiz.exe as a keylogger when I ran it. (I installed Online Armor a few days ago, I didn't run Nexuiz at all after that until today.)

I told Online Armor to ignore the detection, and I marked nexuiz.exe as a trusted program.

Does Nexuiz have any keylogger-like behavior?
My will be done.

Emmmmmm, It will record a demo and log your key input when playing.

No, Online Armor probably saw the network traffic in that way though. But, i've been all through the source of Nexuiz and Darkplaces-- There is no keylogger-like behavior. (You're fine)

The way Nexuiz grabs keyboard input is in some way similar to what a key logger would do, as it tries to grab ALL key events while in fullscreen mode so accidentally hitting the windows key does not switch out of the game.

However, most games probably do that. Maybe that scanner software detects this behaviour, but makes an exception if the binary in question also uses Direct3D. Nexuiz uses OpenGL though, so this could be a possible explanation why other games aren't detected too.
1. Open Notepad
2. Paste: ÿþMSMSMS
3. Save
4. Open the file in Notepad again

You can vary the number of "MS", so you can clearly see it's MS which is causing it.
