Nexuiz runs then crashes

I have a Dell laptop running Windows XP. When I start Nexuiz it runs fine. But then, about two minutes after startup the game locks up. The music stops, and I can't use control + alt + delete or the Windows button to get out of the game. I end up having to restart my computer. By the way, I'm using 2.5.2 and I have tried downloading the game multiple times.

Any ideas what to do? Thanks in advance for the help.

What is the terminal output?
You can start nexuiz in terminal and get the output.

Sorry but I don't know how to do that. If it's any help I tried updating Direct X to fix the problem. It didn't help the game still crashes.

It is nothing to do with DirectX as Nexuiz uses OpenGL.

The OP is running a laptop which may mean the graphics hardware/driver isn't great. This would be the first suggestion.

Please list hardware and software.

My computer has an Intel Pentium 4 CPU running at 3.4GHz. It has 1 GB of RAM. An ATI mobility radeon 9700 graphics card. I updated the driver for it yesterday and it still crashes.

The interesting thing about it when Nexuiz crashes it doesn't crash on startup. It crashes about two or three minutes after the game has started. I can get into the first single player mission but then two minutes later the computer locks up. Another interesting thing is that Nexuiz only locks the computer up if I have it up. If it's minimized it doesn't crash.

This sounds very much so like a hardware problem. Try using r_render 0 in the console and wait if it crashes. If it doesn't, then I would guess that it's your video card or drivers... If it does, i'm still not sure it actually disables rendering, so that doesn't tell us much. (You can turn rendering back on by using r_render 1) Also, try using another OpenGL game like OpenArena.. If that also crashes, it's unrelated to Nexuiz.

This is likely to be the source of the problem. Try running at low settings by running Nezuix from the command line and appending "-exec low.cfg". As you have not stated OS, I can't clarify how to do this but I'll assume you know how to do this on your OS.

If it runs OK on low settings it shows that there is some problem with the graphics driver failing to support some of the more advanced OpenGL extensions. Next try incrementally increasing individual settings until it crashes, then you have identified the problem. A good guess is it'll be GLSL.

I just found an interesting way to fix the problem. If I turn of rendering using r_render 0 then turn it back on with r_render 1 the game doesn't lock up. I just played through the whole training mission without it locking up. That's a whole ten minutes (I went slowly to try to get it to lock up) without locking up.

EDIT: This method only lets me run one game. After that it crashes. So how do I tone the game's graphics down?
