Sidewinder Dual Strike controller issue

I was amazed by the Dual Strike (and Strategic Commander as well) design that would relieve strain from mouse an keyboard. I bought both. The Dual Strike is supported in vista 64. However, when "joystick" is enabled, the game view simply spinning counterclockwise and points upwards. I tried a few possible settings tweak in joy* in vain. Any work around? Thanks.
