Is there anyway to enable "Alt-Tab" And/or custom

Postby 133794m3r » Wed Nov 04, 2009 12:43 pm

Currently the game doesn't include an option to do 1280x720 which is what i'd like for it to be set at. Also it doesn't include apparently the ability to "Alt+Tab" out of the main game window.

I'm the type of person who likes to Alt+Tab out of games and such when i'm talking to someone so this is one thing i'd like to figure out hwo to do. Also the thing about resolution perplexes me.

I don't get why there is no 1280x720 option as that's a very common resolution or atleast i thought it was. My screen's a 1366x768(weird asus people) so thus 1280x720 fits it perfectly in windowed mode allowing me to still get things done.

Somehow disabling Alt+Tab makes no sense to me asi 've yet to see ANY controls in the game where someone would honestly use Alt+Tab or anything near that during their gameplay.

ALT+TAB has always worked fine for as long as I can remember, I just tested on Windows 7 and it works. What OS are you running?

As for resolution, most computers run at an aspect ratio of 4:3, 5:4, or 16:10. 1280x720 is 16:9 (most common on televisions), but is becoming more standard on PCs as well. There is a chance additional 16:9 options may end up in the menu eventually.

In the mean time, you can choose any resolution you like by opening the console (SHIFT+ESC) and typing the following:
Code: Select all
vid_fullscreen 0
vid_width 1280
vid_height 720
vid_restart

I'm assuming this is not on Windows. This problem is not particular to Nexuiz. In the X window system, fullscreen applications get exclusive access to input events; in other words, other apps do not see those key presses. (This includes the window manager, which is responsible for window switching.) If you want the window manager binds to work while playing, disable fullscreen in-game and instead use the fullscreen option of the window manager. This usually does not scale the actual viewport to fill the window, so you'll probably have to set the in-game resolution to the effective resolution of your screen.

see that's the main problem though. I'm doing it windowed. So that whole thing of "full screen apps get exclusive control" thing doesn't really work with me. As other such games that were windowed mode using opengl's rendering system which is what i imagine this game's using due to it's ability to run on linux natively could Alt+Tab out during windowed mode play. That is how i set it and ok... Do those setting stay with teh game? Or is it only temporary?

Edit: I also know of two other games that allow me to Alt+Tab in windowed mode. PlaneShift, and Regnum.

Oh, I forgot about that part. Windowed apps that grab mouse/keyboard also exhibit the same problem. To disable the input grab in Nexuiz, just activate the console (press tilde or Shift+Escape). Then you should finally be able to use the window manager binds.

So there's no way to make it permanent?

You might want to note that the SDL and GLX versions might behave differently in that respect, too.

god damn it you guys make things so complicated :S

to have your resolution set at whatever you wish and leave it like that permenantly, you need to add it in a config file.

since your using linux that file would be located in /home/yourusername/.nexuiz/data and you name it autoexec.cfg

vid_width 1280
vid_height 720

is what you put in that file. it will be launched everytime nexuiz starts. you can add any other commands you wish to that file.

for alt-tabing out of nexuiz (in windowed mode) , you need to absolutely be in console mode and not in playing mode. playing mode locks every button of your keyboard to be used in nexuiz only. If you like your nexuiz to be like in fullscreen but also like in windowed mode, you need to use the application devilspie that will allow you to make your window fill the screen and be not decorated.

dont hesitate to ask if you have any other things you wish to perform nexuizly wise, theres a 99,9% probability that its doable.
