Nexuiz kills my wireless!!!

Postby sweatshopking » Thu Dec 10, 2009 2:13 pm

if i try to play nexuiz, it disconnects0 me from my router!! im using ubuntu 9.10, gpu (though i doubt it is related) nvidia 9600m gs. it is very strange, it will completely disconnect me from the internet, requiring me to restart my wireless card to work. i have never seen anything like this before, so im quite suprised. im a little new to linux, so please be gentle. it isnt my router crashing, because other devices work still. it just crashes my wireless card. it is an intel wireless card i think... driver iwlagn

Welcome to the forums!

Personally I can't help you much at all except for suggesting to connect via LAN cable to your router while playing online, regardless of whether WLAN works or not. Wireless LAN connection increases your lag and therefore is bad for your online game experience.

Maybe Nexuiz kills your WLAN on purpose? :)

it seems it makes my router crash, cause it does the same thing in windows on 2 pcs... this is the only game that has ever done this... i have a draft N dir 615. sadly plugging in is not an option, as my cable comes in at a spot that doesnt allow for it. i cant even play lan games, cause it crashes the router when you try to look for any games at all. has anyone else had this problem, and is there any known fixes?

My guess is that you would have to look for fixes for your router. Network traffic should not crash your router..

lda17h is putting it very mildly, if your router is crashing from network traffic its totally broken and/or complete crap. if your sure the router's crashing, contact the hardware mgf and let em have it (may wanna check for firmware updates first tough).

<Diablo> the nex is a "game modification"
<Diablo> quake1 never had a weapon like that.
<Vordreller> there was no need for anything over 4GB untill Vista came along
<Samua>]Idea: Fix it? :D
<Samua>Lies, that only applies to other people.

The router is prolly garbage
It has many many terrible reviews
And I quote from various reviewers

"It's a Nightmare"
"Save yourself the grief, stay away from this router."
"What a piece of JUNK!!! DON'T BUY THIS CRAPPY ROUTER!"
"Tired of the constant dropped signal and need to reboot"
"junk router - poor support - poor operation"
"Most frustrating piece of crap."
"the direct wire is good, the wireless portion useless"
"Inexpensive Router with performance/reliability issues"

You could try a firmware update for the router
You may also try repeatedly striking with a hammer and then replace with a better one.
