Installation problems - Ubuntu/Linux newbie

Postby badbetty » Sat Jan 02, 2010 11:57 am

Hello folks - thank you for reading on please:

Its a steep learning curve is this linux experience (currently using Ubuntu 9.10).

Anyway, I'm trying to install Nexuiz and on executing the nexuiz-linux-sdl.sh file, I get the following out put (see below). No game play.
I have no idea where to start to fix, so if anyone more experienced can shed some light on this for me - even perhaps suggest a fix - that would be much appreciated.

To be honest, there are quite a few games that are failing to load/install/play for some reason, but that's another [connected perhaps] story.

Thank you
BB

Hi,

please come to the #nexuiz channel on irc.quakenet.org. There we can help you more efficiently.

Just looking at the output it seems that you do not have any OpenGL drivers installed. As a first thing try the restricted driver dialog. You find it somewhere in the System/Administration menu ("Hardware Drivers"?)..

hello Ida17h

thanks for taking time to reply. i followed up your observations best i could and you were spot on about the glx driver.

although i had the ati driver loaded, it the 'hardware drivers' it wasn't showing up as activated for some reason. so after some messing around, i managed to get it to activate (and it loaded some other things i think too) and all seems sorted now.

the game plays, although i suspect i will now have to try understand how to get the right configuration (e.g. the mouse is slow, and display not ideal yet), but that's just a case of trying and learning.

thank you again
